Former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa’s granddaughter Dr Soundarya V Y, 30, allegedly died by suicide in a Bengaluru apartment on Friday morning.

According to police, Soundarya was found hanging in her bedroom around 10 am by her husband, Dr Neeraj, when he rushed back from work on being informed by their house help that she wasn’t responding despite several knocks on the door.

Dr K V Sathish, one of the doctors who conducted an autopsy on Soundarya at the city’s Bowring Hospital, told the media there was a mark on her neck. “A team of three doctors conducted the postmortem, the report of which has been submitted to the tehsildar, and the body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem,” he added.

Soundarya, daughter of Yediyurappa’s second daughter Padmavathi and Virupakshappa Yamakanamardi, was working at a private hospital in the city. She and Dr Neeraj, who were married in 2018, had a baby six months ago. Police sources said Soundarya seemed to have been suffering from mental distress and that her family suspected personal reasons behind her suicide.
