Watch: 13-year-old girl lifts autorickshaw to save mother in Karnataka, CM Siddaramaiah says her action sends a ‘message to society’
Vaibhavi wasted no time after seeing a speeding autorickshaw hitting her mother and toppling on her in Mangaluru's Ramanagara.

A 13-year-old schoolgirl in Karnataka’s Mangaluru has come in for praise from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after her swift action saved her mother who was knocked down by an autorickshaw.
The accident occurred on Friday and came to light after a CCTV footage surfaced on social media. Chethana, 40, a resident of Rajaratnapura, was crossing the Kinnigoli-Kateel Road in Ramanagara when a speeding autorickshaw hit her and toppled on her.
Chethana’s daughter, Vaibhavi, a Class 7 student at St Mary’s Central School in Kinnigoli, was waiting for her. The girl immediately rushed to her mother’s aid and lifted the overturned autorickshaw with the help of the driver and a passenger travelling in it.
According to the police, Chethana, a bank deposit collection agent, was rushing to meet her daughter when the speeding autorickshaw suddenly swerved to avoid hitting her. The driver lost control, and the vehicle hit Chethana, trapping her underneath. A nearby shop’s CCTV camera captured the incident, and the video quickly went viral.
Siddaramaiah took to X to appreciate the girl’s timely response and courage. In a post written in Kannada, he said, “… Recently, I have seen many times in the media that people who were supposed to rush to the aid of the victims were standing around and making videos on mobile phones at the accident sites, which made me worried about the future days. The action of this little girl seems to send a message to the entire society. Every second is precious for the victims of an accident, fire or heart attack. Don’t forget humanity….”

Chethana was recovering from her injuries in a hospital, said the police. They said the autorickshaw driver and the passenger were also injured in the accident.
B P Dinesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and traffic), said a suo motu case was filed against the autorickshaw driver for dangerous driving. He also commended Vaibhavi for her quick thinking and action in rescuing her mother.
