Traffic in central Bengaluru is expected to be disrupted on Friday as the Congress holds a protest rally under the leadership of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, following his allegations of vote theft in a constituency in the city in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Bengaluru traffic police have issued an advisory on parking restrictions in central and east Bengaluru in light of Gandhi’s visit to the city. Gandhi will travel from HAL airport in east Bengaluru to the Freedom Park in central Bengaluru.

“In view of VVIP visit to Bengaluru city on 08.08.2025 parking of all types of vehicles is prohibited in the following roads. Further, it is requested to avoid the following roads and use alternative roads,” the Bengaluru police said in an advisory.

The restrictions will be in place on Old Airport Road, M G Road, and Cubbon Road, and will be applicable between 10.30 am and 11.30 am and 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm.

The Congress protest against alleged irregularities in the voter list and vote fraud is being held under the leadership of Gandhi and All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge at Freedom Park on Friday morning. AICC general secretaries K C Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, and other delegates are set to participate.

On Thursday, Gandhi alleged irregularities in the voter lists for the Mahadevapura Assembly segment in the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat. The Congress leader alleged that the voting in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment was suspicious and alleged that over 1 lakh votes could be fraudulent. “I want the nation to know, there is a huge criminal fraud being perpetrated on this country by the ECI [Election Commission of India] and the party in power,” he claimed.
