Temple priest’s assistant held for raping Bengaluru woman, blackmailing her

According to the police, the woman had visited the temple in October 2024 seeking “divine” intervention to the issues she faced in life. “Her husband had passed away and she was facing a lot of problems. During her visit, Arun befriended the woman and told her that someone had performed black magic against her family, causing their troubles,” an officer said.

“Luring her by promising to solve the problem, the priest got her contact details and started to converse with her. He asked her to appear naked on video calls. Later, he allegedly sexually assaulted her and threatened to do black magic against her if she complained about the matter or informed anyone,” the officer added.

However, when the calls and threats increased, the woman informed her family members and filed a complaint on Friday. The police subsequently registered a case and arrested Arun. “We are yet to get more details as investigations are underway,” a police officer said.

Earlier this month, the Belagavi police in Karnataka arrested three men and apprehended two minor boys for allegedly gang-raping a 15-year-old girl multiple times. The police said one man had initially befriended the girl, following which he and five others gang-raped her in December last year and filmed the assault on their phones. The accused allegedly used the videos of the assault to blackmail the survivor before gang-raping her again in January this year.
