Woman PG student found dead at Bangalore University hostel, cops find ‘suicide note’
Bengaluru police said HN Pavana, 21, attended a programme at the university but left mid-way before she allegedly killed herself.
The deceased was identified as H N Pavana, 21, a native of Hebbalaguppe in HD Kote.
A third-semester student of MA Kannada at Bangalore University allegedly died by suicide at the women’s hostel of its Jnanabharathi campus on Mysuru Road Monday morning. Jnanabharathi police have launched an investigation.
The deceased was identified as H N Pavana, 21, a native of Hebbalaguppe in HD Kote. The matter reportedly came to light around 12 noon when the student’s roommates checked on her after she failed to respond to their calls. They found Pavana unresponsive in the room which was locked from the inside.
Girish S, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, said the deceased left behind a ‘suicide’ note. The police suspect that she died between 11 am and 12 noon. An officer said Pavana had attended a programme at the university but left mid-way before she allegedly killed herself.
Pavana stayed in Room 124. In the ‘death note’, she reportedly mentioned being deceived by a male friend she had trusted blindly. She also apologised to her parents and expressed her love for them.
Dr Jayakar Shetty, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, said it is not known why the student took the extreme step. “The women’s hostel is inside the university campus. Jnanabharathi police visited the spot and are investigating,” he added.
The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. P C Nagesh, director of Students’ Welfare at Bangalore University, said Pavana’s parents have been informed.
