Suhas Shetty murder: VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell, SDPI’s Riyaz Kadambu approach Mangaluru police over online death threats
Eight people have been arrested so far in connection with the murder of Bajrang Dal member Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru on May 1.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sharan Pumpwell and SDPI’s Riyaz Kadambu have approached the Mangaluru police after receiving online death threats in the wake of the murder of Bajrang Dal member Suhas Shetty.
On May 2, Pumpwell was participating in a news discussion on the Shetty case when a comment appeared on the programme’s YouTube live stream targeting him. “Next target Sharan Pumpwell Sharan b ready to die,” the post said. Following a complaint from the VHP leader, the Mangaluru East police have launched a probe.
Meanwhile, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader Riyaz Kadambu alias Mohammed Riyaz complained to the Mangaluru South police after he was threatened during the streaming of another news programme on YouTube. A user with the handle @krrakesh9456 commented, “Next is Riyaz Kadambu.” Another user posted a “hit list”, naming Kadambu and others, during the live streaming of Shetty’s funeral.
Eight people have been arrested so far in connection with the murder of Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru on May 1. The police suspect that at least five others helped the accused to kill Shetty.
Shetty, who was the prime accused in the 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil, 23, faced five other cases, including four in Mangaluru city and one in Dakshina Kannada district.
In the wake of the recent communal tension in Karnataka’s coastal districts after Shetty’s murder, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Sunday that the state government will soon set up a special police wing for the detection of anti-social elements who are instigating communal trouble. “I will talk to the home minister and take action towards the same,” the Congress leader told reporters at Hanagal.
Following the murder, communal tension gripped Mangaluru after one Ashraf, a Muslim migrant labourer from Kerala, was lynched by a mob. Two other stabbing incidents were also reported.
