Two more persons have been arrested in connection with an attempt to rob a sum of Rs 50.3 lakh from two employees of the Bhima Jewelers store – while they were taking the money to be deposited in a bank on Monday.
The robbery bid was foiled by the victims with the help of the Shivajinagar traffic police who were checking vehicles near the crime scene and flew into action after hearing the cries of the store employees. One of the robbers Naresh, 30, of Ulsoor was caught red handed by the traffic police and was handed over to the Commercial Street police.
Following further investigations the police managed to arrest two more persons in connection with the case on Wednesday. One of the accused has been identified as Ramachandra, 32, of Ulsoor, who accompanied Naresh to commit the offence and later escaped on his motorcycle. The other accused has been identified as Prema Kumar, 24, who was sacked a month ago by the jewelery store management for fraud. Police said all the three accused persons had criminal backgrounds and were involved in many cases including robbery and other offenses in the city. Kumar hatched the plan to rob the jewelery store employees.
