After row over V D Savarkar’s photo on government bus, Karnataka transport body orders removal
SDPI state general secretary Afsar Kodilpet tweeted, “Pictures of British sympathizers such as Veer Savarkar in government buses is an insult to the actual freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence.”
The North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, which operates buses in the north-western region of the state, is looking into the issue.

Following a row over Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar’s photo on a government bus at Chikodi in Belagavi district, the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has ordered the removal of the picture.
According to the transport department, the photo could have been put up as part of Independence Day celebrations by transport officials.
Earlier in the day, NWKRTC, which operates buses in the north-western region of the state, had said that it looking into the issue. “We will find out the circumstances in which the photos were put up on the bus and take suitable measures. We will know more about it in a day or two,” Bharath Selvan, managing director of the corporation, told The Indian Express on Thursday.
Later, in the evening, following protest from SDPI, the corporation decided to pull down the picture.
