‘Congress transformed Bengaluru from tech city to tanker city’: PM Modi
Modi also referred to the Rameshwaram Cafe blast that rocked Bengaluru on March 1 and slammed the Congress for the recent attacks against women in Karnataka’s Hubballi, Bengaluru and Gadag.
In a sharp attack against the ruling government in Karnataka over the Bengaluru water scarcity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Congress has turned Bengaluru from a tech city to a tanker city. His criticism comes in the wake of allegations that the Congress-led government has handed over the city to the “water mafia”.
“Be it agriculture or infrastructure, Congress has cut down the budgetary allocation. Their focus is only on corruption and not on Bengaluru people’s concerns. Only the projects of the central government are progressing rapidly in Karnataka,” said Modi while addressing a public meeting in Bengaluru’s Palace Grounds on Saturday.
For the first time, he also referred to the Rameshwaram Cafe blast that rocked the city on March 1. Modi also slammed the Congress for the recent attacks against women in Hubballi, Bengaluru and Gadag.
“Women are being attacked in the state, bombs are going off in busy areas, people chanting bhajans are being attacked…these are not ordinary incidents. Which is why I appeal to the people of Karnataka to stay alert against Congress,” said Modi.
Modi also highlighted that India is not following but is spearheading various sectors of development. He also stressed on “easing” the middle class families and adding to their savings with the central government’s policies in the last 10 years.
“As many as 84,000 houses have been provided to the poor in Bengaluru. In order to fulfill the dreams of housing for the middle class families, for the first time, the NDA provided interest free subsidy which saved nearly Rs 60,000 crore for the families. In Bengaluru, over 3,000 housing projects are covered under the RERA Act and houses have been built in line with the agreement,” said Modi. He added that savings done by the middle class families have gone up due to the implementation of GST, zero income tax up to Rs 7 lakh per annum, affordable healthcare, free electricity to the poor, among others.
Modi also highlighted that Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro project and the long standing Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project will soon be completed.

PM Modi also said that Bengaluru is a powerhouse of youth and technology and that Congress has been “anti-technology”. “Today, the whole world is praising Digital India, applauding India’s fintech. But don’t forget, Congress opposed Aadhaar. Congress opposed Jan Dhan Accounts. Congress mocked digital payments. Congress opposed digital authentication in the ration scheme. During the Covid times, Bengaluru’s IT industry supported the whole world so much. But it’s the same Congress that opposed the CoWIN platform during the pandemic. Congress tarnished the Made in India, Corona vaccine,” said Modi.
He added, “With the opening of the space sector, the private sector has launched its rockets. Investment opportunities have multiplied with the Mission Green Hydrogen. The easy drone policy has increased the use of drones in mapping, agriculture, defence, and medicine. The expansion of 5G has created opportunities in AI and the Internet of Things. The Digital India campaign has trained millions of digital entrepreneurs.”
