One held for harassing daughter-in-law of corporator

Police said that the victim was the daughter-in-law of a corporator of Bruhath Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

A man was caught hold by the family members and friends of a woman and handed over to the police for harassing her on Wednesday night near Shivananda Circle.

The High Grounds police have arrested the accused, who was later identified as Manjunath, a small time realtor by profession, and are still searching for two more in connection with the case.

Police said that the victim was the daughter-in-law of a corporator of Bruhath Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened when the victim and her husband were returning from their son’s birthday party at Sea Rock hotel on Shivananda Circle.

The party ended by 11.30 pm and they were returning home when the incident took place. The victim along with her relatives and friends were crossing the road, when a high-speeding car almost ran over them.

The confused relatives, shocked over the incident, screamed at the car driver. The accused, Manjunath, and his two friends, identified as Venkatesh and Beli, reversed their car and abused the victim, and tried to pull her into the vehicle. The enraged relatives and friends managed to catch hold of Manjunath and beat him. The other two managed to escape from the spot.

The victim called and informed the police about the incident, who rushed to the scene and took the suspect into custody. The police have registered a harassment and assault case against the accused. The police have launched a manhunt for the two absconding suspects.
