A foreign national who was allegedly bringing MDMA crystals to Bengaluru concealed in packets of baby food, cereals and consumer goods has been arrested by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB), leading to the recovery of 4 kg of crystals valued at Rs 6 crore.
Chukwuduem Justice Nwafor, 41, a Nigerian national, was arrested in the Electronics City area of Bengaluru on July 24 after the CCB received a tip-off that a foreign national was selling the banned MDMA crystals to college students, IT professionals and others.
“The police investigation has found that the foreign national was bringing the drugs from Mumbai to Bengaluru by concealing it in packages bearing the labels of Kellogg’s, Nestle Ceregrow and soaps without raising any suspicion,” the CCB said in an official statement.
Nwafor had come to India on a business visa and was staying in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He was involved in a clothing business but later came to Bengaluru after suffering losses in his business, the police said.
“It has come to light from the preliminary inquiry that with the intention of living a high life and earning easy profits, he bought MDMA crystal at a low price from his friends in Mumbai and brought it to Bengaluru and charged customers ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 per gm,” the police said.
An accomplice of the accused was also apprehended and has been sent to the state detention centre for residing illegally in India, the police added.
A case has been registered by the CCB and the Nigerian national was produced before a court and placed in judicial custody.
