J P Nadda, Amit Malviya summoned by Bengaluru police over social media post targeting Muslims
The police had issued a notice to social media platform X on May 5, asking it to take down the animated video posted by the BJP state unit. This came after the Election Commission wrote a letter to the police on the same day, asking them to initiate action.

The Bengaluru Police Wednesday issued summons to BJP President J P Nadda and the party’s IT cell head Amit Malviya in connection with a social media post that depicted the Congress appeasing Muslims at the cost of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
They have been asked to join the probe at Bengaluru’s High Grounds within seven days.
“For the purpose of investigation of the said case, you are hereby directed to appear before the undersigned investigation officer at 11 am at High grounds police station within seven days of receipt of this notice,” the summons read.

The Karnataka Congress had on Sunday filed a complaint with the EC in connection with the video.
Following this, the High Grounds police in Bengaluru had registered a case against Nadda, Amit Malviya and state president B Y Vijayendra, under section 125 (Promoting or attempting to promote on ground of religion, race, caste, community or language, feeling of enmity or hatred, between different classes of the citizens of India) of Representation of People Act and 505 (2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill will between classes) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to EC sources, the post was a violation of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which defines “corrupt practices” to include promotion of enmity between communities, castes and races. Sources said the EC took a serious note of the post not being removed despite a valid legal request by the Karnataka CEO’s office. As reported in The Indian Express on Tuesday, the Karnataka CEO’s office had been in touch with the social media platform, but the EC intervened since the post remained up for four days.

Polling in Karnataka was completed on Tuesday in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
