The death of a family member led a mother and her son to commit suicide in Ashokanagar in Central Bangalore earlier this week.
Vidya James (48) and her son Alen Christopher (25), a student of business administration, lived in the BDA Quarters at Austin Town in Ashokanagar. Police said that the duo had consumed fruit juice laced with poison on Wednesday night and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. They died in the hospital on Thursday evening.
Police said the two had been depressed Christopher’s father and Vidya’s husband James, a small time businessman, died of cardiac arrest on August 11. The mother and son decided to end their lives and wrote a suicide note explaining that they were unable to bear the pain of James death.
Ashokanagar police were informed by the hospital and the bodies have been shifted to Bowring Hospital, where a postmortem examination was conducted on Friday.
