The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the state government in a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking implementation of the 103rd Constitutional amendment providing for 10 per cent reservation for those belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) category.

A division bench of Chief Justice P S Dinesh Kumar and Justice T G Shivashankare Gowda was hearing a PIL filed by Girish Bhardwaj, who pointed out that despite the notification of the 103rd amendment of the Constitution providing for 10 per cent EWS quota in 2019 and the same being upheld in the Supreme Court in 2022, no steps had been taken to implement the measures.
