Tenants can now link a new RR number to continue to avail the benefit of 200 units of free electricity under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme even at a new address.

How to delink and link Aadhaar with RR number
According to Energy department, the consumers will have to register through the Seva Sindhu Gruha Jyothi delink portal and make changes after relocating on the following website: https://sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in/GruhaJyothi_Delink/GetAadhaarData.aspx
For people moving to new houses, it is essential to update the RR number which is linked with Aadhaar numbers to continue benefiting from the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
An official of the Energy department said, “If a person encounters any issue while accessing the Gruha Jyothi portal, one must clear the cache memory and attempt to access the portal again. For a step-by-step guide on how to use the portal, visit the website or contact the customer service for assistance.”
The official added that people leaving a premise should delink their Aadhaar numbers from the RR number so that it allows the next tenant to have a smooth transition.
“The previous resident’s role is crucial in this process, and we encourage them to complete the delinking process promptly to facilitate a smooth transition for a new resident,” the official explained.
Mahantesh Bilagi, Managing Director, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, said, “We have resolved technical issues with the Gruha Jyothi Yojana website through a software update. Consumers can delink their old RR numbers and link a new RR number to ensure that they continue to enjoy the scheme’s benefits at their new address.”
Rs 8,239 crore spent on free electricity: Minister
Karnataka Energy Minister K J George on Tuesday said that the department has received a subsidy of Rs 8,239 crore from government of Karnataka under the Gruha Jyoti scheme.
In a press conference, George said that there were 1.67 crore households registered between August 2023 and June 2024 and of them, 1.56 crore were provided subsidy under the Gruha Jyoti scheme.
He said that the department has received a subsidy of Rs 8,239 crore from the government. An official at the Energy department said that the cost of the free electricity provided under the scheme is almost the same as the gross bills submitted to the Finance department every month.
