Kannada actor Rakshit Shetty booked in copyrights violation case for using songs from old movies without permission

The Bengaluru police have booked Kannada actor Rakshit Shetty for alleged copyright violation by using songs from old films in a recent film he produced.

In his complaint, Naveen Kumar, a partner in MRT Music, said songs from the movies Nyaya Ellide (1982) and Gaali Maathu (1981) were used in Bachelor Party, which Rakshit Shetty produced. He said his company held the rights to the old songs used in the movie.

Kumar said, “In January this year, there were discussions between the complainant and Rajesh about using the songs in the movie. However, it was dropped as the discussion did not end positively. But the movie was released on Amazon Prime in March 2024, and the movie makers used the above songs without permission from the copyright owners,” he said in the complaint.
