On Wednesday, the helpline desk of the Bengaluru city police received a strange call – from an MBA graduate who allegedly swindled over 500 job aspirants requesting to arrest him so as to save himself from being attacked by the victims.

According to the police, Kolly Naga Venkata Pavan Kumar, a native of Vijayawada, flew down to Bengaluru from Delhi on Wednesday, as per the ‘requests’ of a few job aspirants who were waiting for him at a pre-decided place in the city where they detained and intimidated him to return the money.

As a last resort to save himself, Pavan Kumar rang up the police and the Whitefield police reached the spot and arrested the 38-year-old, officials said. They have launched a probe into the case.

Officials said that it is learnt that the fraudster had siphoned off Rs 5 crore from the victims.

On Wednesday alone 24 people who were conned promising plum jobs filed complaints against Pavan Kumar, who had fled to Delhi after closing down his two offices named Shamkuh Technology and Monty Corps in Whitefield where he offered training and placements.

“As Pavan Kumar turned incommunicado, a few victims devised a plan to bring him to Bengaluru by posing as job aspirants. After a few conversations with Pavan Kumar, the victims expressed their willingness to pay money to avail his training for placements and he fell into their trap,” said an officer.

Police said that the fraudster used to contact graduates, gave training to those who fell into his trap and later handed over fake appointment letters to some of them. “After he got exposed, he closed down the operations of both the companies – in February and September – and fled to Delhi,” said an officer.
