A foreign national, who was released on bail in September 2023 following his arrest in October 2022, has been arrested once again by the Bengaluru crime branch police from the south east part of the city for possession of over two kg of MDMA worth Rs two crore.
In 2022, Seka Ghislain Tano, 33, an Ivory Coast national, was arrested for selling MDMA drug near a South Bengaluru college. The police had seized 1.1 kg of MDMA from him and his associate Ifeanyi Egwuatu, a Nigerian national.
Tano was arrested on Thursday by the Bengaluru crime branch police on the basis of information received by the anti-narcotics wing.
In 2022, Tano was arrested along with Egwuatu for selling MDMA crystals to college students from a parked scooter in the Shankarapura police limits in south Bengaluru. “The accused was arrested in 2022 in an NDPS case in the Shankarapuram police limits and was later released on bail,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand said on Friday.
Tano and Egwuatu were granted bail in September 2023 after the police filed a chargesheet in the case. The duo is still undertrial in the 2022 case.
A special judge for NDPS cases had ordered the release of Tano and his associate last year on bail bonds of Rs two lakh each and under the condition that the duo “shall not commit any offences similar to the offences of which they are accused or any other offences”.
Breach of any of the conditions would entail cancellation of bail, the court had said last year.
Tano, who came to India in 2022 on a business visa, was initially involved in the trading of clothes in Mumbai and Delhi. He later moved to Bengaluru and came in contact with persons involved in the drug trade
