‘IED in 2 places are like puzzle’: Bengaluru airport receives hoax bomb threat to avenge ‘unfair hanging’ of Ajmal Kasab

In four days, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has received a second bomb threat, which later turned out to be a hoax.
The latest email received at 10.18 pm on June 16 stated that the explosion will be in response to the “unfair” execution of Ajmal Kasab, the 2008 Mumbai terror attack accused.

“The IED in two places are like a puzzle, solve one to solve the other. We have RFID to remote detonate if plan A fails. this holy day, Economist Jeyaranjan and Bengaluru Airport Restroom/Pipelines will face a severe pipe bomb blast to commemorate the unfair hanging of Ajmal Kasab Bhai and Savukku Shakar illegal detention by Pallan A Arun IPS (sic)” the email sent from alex_paul_menon@hotmail.com read.
The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) carried out a detailed examination and declared the threat a hoax.
On June 13, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) overseeing Bengaluru airport security received an email threat, claiming to be from ‘Madras Tigers’, that warned of “Human IEDs to detonate near Fuselage/Airport Prayer Rooms” and demanded immediate evacuation.

According to police sources, the emails appear to be connected to similar threats sent to schools in Hassan, Udupi, and other states across the country.
Between 2022 and 2024, Karnataka reported 169 fake bomb threat calls or emails, with Bengaluru city leading with 133. In three cases, the police had arrested 10 people.
