Newlyweds in Karnataka’s Kolar fight hours after marriage; man kills wife, dies later

According to the police, Naveen took Likhitha and his in-laws to his uncle's house where they were served with refreshments.

KarnatakaThe Andersonpet police have registered a case of murder and are carrying out investigations.

A 19-year-old newly wedded woman was allegedly murdered by her husband after an argument on Wednesday evening in Karnataka’s Kolar district. According to the police, the woman has been identified as Likitha and the accused as Naveen, 27, who died in a hospital on Thursday.

They said the incident took place in Chambarasabahalli in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) around 6 pm just hours after Naveen and Likitha got married. “The wedding of the couple was held in a marriage hall in the Chambarasabahalli village and after the ceremony, the couple spent some time with their relatives at the marriage hall,” said a police officer from the Anderson Police Station.

According to the police, Naveen took Likhitha and his in-laws to his uncle’s house where they were served with refreshments. A few minutes later, Naveen and Likitha went inside a room and closed the door. In the next few minutes, the relatives heard them screaming at each other and as they looked into the room from a window, they saw Naveen attacking Likitha with a machete.

They tried to break open the room’s door but they were unable to do it immediately. After a few minutes, when they managed to open the door, they found Likitha lying in a pool of blood and Naveen with injuries. The family members immediately called an ambulance but as there was a delay, they took the couple to the R L Jalappa Hospital in an auto-rickshaw.

While the doctors declared Likitha as “brought dead”, the police admitted Naveen, who was in a critical condition, for further treatment. The police said they are yet to ascertain the reason behind the fight between the couple and how Naveen managed to get a machete at his uncle’s house.

“We will be able to know the reason only when Naveen can talk. The family members are also not aware of what led to the incident,” said a police officer earlier.

Naveen owned a cloth shop and Likitha had just completed her pre-university education.
