Four held for trying to sell Panchaloha idols

Policemen posed as customers and approached the accused persons to purchase the idols and arrested them.

Four persons have been arrested by the Kamakshipalya police in Bangalore for allegedly attempting to sell five Panchaloha idols worth Rs 1.5 crore belonging to the period of the Hoysala dynasty.

The four were arrested at the Sumanahalli Ring Road in West Bangalore. All are residents of Mysore and CV Dattamurthy, 46 of Nagamangala in Mandya district.

Additional Commissioner of Police (law and order) Alok Kumar said that the accused had been arrested based on a tip off.

Policemen posed as customers and approached the accused persons to purchase the idols and arrested them. Two more members of the gang managed to escape, police claimed.

The source of the idols were yet to be established, police said.
