In what came as a surprise, Janata Dal Secular’s (JDS) former Nagamangala MLA Suresh Gowda lodged a complaint Wednesday against a police inspector and a sub-inspector of the Karnataka Police for allegedly sharing CCTV footage from T B Layout with the public.

The clip purportedly showed Gowda intercepting an ambulance transporting Jagadeesh, a bus driver of the Karnataka State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC), who had allegedly consumed poison following his transfer and was being taken to a hospital in Mysuru on July 5. According to information, Gowda had stopped the ambulance to enquire if Jagadeesh could be treated within Nagamangala town.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) and the Mandya Superintendent of Police, Gowda expressed his concerns about the footage being shared with the people and urged the senior officers to take disciplinary action. He also threatened to organise a protest if appropriate measures were not taken.

On July 7, senior JDS leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy claimed that Karnataka Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy had ordered Jagadeesh’s transfer. Kumaraswamy further alleged that the minister engaged in “hate politics” due to Jagadeesh and his wife’s affiliation with the JDS. Jagadeesh is presently receiving treatment at a hospital in Mysuru.

On the same day, Opposition parties BJP and JDS raised the matter in the Assembly, demanding Chaluvarayaswamy’s resignation. The protest was subsequently withdrawn after Home Minister G Parameshwara initiated an inquiry into the incident.
