The Karnataka Forest Department officials captured a five-year-old tigress along with its three cubs at Kallahalli, along the fringes of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve (BTR), early Monday morning.

Officials said the operation was carried out after confirming that the tigress had repeatedly entered residential areas and attacked livestock. It is also suspected to have mauled a person during the last week of October.

The tigress and the cubs are currently under the supervision of veterinarians from the department.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre Monday said that operations will continue to monitor and capture other tigers roaming outside forest areas.

Recently, tigers have been sighted in residential zones near Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserves, followed by attacks on people and livestock. In response, orders were issued to identify and capture such tigers.

This was the second capture after a tiger suspected of having mauled three people to death was captured during the late hours of Saturday. The animal was tranquilised at the Moleyur range of BTR, and shifted to the Chamundi Wildlife Conservation, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre on the outskirts of Mysuru city.

On Friday, Chowdaiah Naik, 35, was mauled by a tiger in Halle Heggodilu village on the fringes of the BTR – the third death from tiger attack around the reserve since October 26. After the farmer’s death, Khandre had ordered the immediate suspension of safari operations at the BTR and the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve to divert staff to the operation to capture the tigers spotted near habitations close to the reserve forests.
