A two-day music festival that brings together Carnatic musicians from Kerala and Karnataka on a single platform began in Bengaluru on Friday.

The event, titled, ‘Where Karnataka Meets Kerala’ is part of Bengaluru’s Ramanarayana Gurukulam music school’s annual festival.

Carnatic vocalist Pattabhirama Pandit, who heads the school, said that the festival seeks to preserve the confluence of Naada and Veda.

Pattabhirama Pandit was a disciple of the late Palghat K V Narayanaswamy, a Sangeeta Kalanidhi awardee and renowned Carnatic musician of 20th century.

The music festival is set to bring together younger musicians alongside more experienced figures in the field.

“We were very particular to bring one state’s artists as guests for the performance….during the Chembai Mahotsav in Guruvayur a lot of our artists go and perform there. So we are trying to create a platform like that,” according to M S Balakrishna, a disciple of Pandit.

The first day of the event started with performances by senior students of Pattabhirama Pandit, with vocalists backed up in different events by musicians playing the violin, mridangam, dholak and tabla, as well as a flute concert.

Entry to the event is free of cost, and will be held from 8 am to 9 pm at Srisudha Shruti Sagara in Bengaluru’s Girinagar.
