Birthday celebrations turn tragic, trivial fight results in death of one brother

The brothers argued over why a third person had been allowed to settle the bill when it should have been paid by one of them.

The birthday celebrations of a young woman in Bengaluru turned tragic on Friday night after an altercation between two of the girl’s brothers, over the payment of their bill at a bar and restaurant, resulted in the death of one of the brothers.

The birthday girl and her two brothers Allan Gerard, 27, a BPO employee, and Santosh Antony, 25, an employee of a private firm were part of a larger group that celebrated the girl’s birthday at the Page 3 Bar and Restaurant on the Residency Road in central Bangalore on Friday night. Following the celebrations a friend in the group had picked up the tab at the restaurant. This resulted in an altercation between Gerard and Antony when they were on their way home in Michaelpalya in East Bangalore.

The brothers argued over why a third person had been allowed to settle the bill when it should have been paid by one of them. The argument that started during their autorickshaw ride home ended in fisticuffs and the rickshaw driver evicted the group from his vehicle on Richmond Road. The brothers continued to punch each other and a blow from Santosh allegedly felled his older brother on the footpath resulting in a severe head injury.

Gerard who was rushed to a nearby hospital was declared dead at the hospital. The Ashoknagar police who were informed about the incident rushed to the scene and registered a a case of murder against Santosh who has been placed under arrest.
