A woman poisoned her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter and attempted suicide at their house in Bengaluru early on Wednesday, allegedly due to financial crisis and frequent disputes with her husband, the police said.

According to the police, Chandrika, 24, fed poison to her daughter and attempted suicide at their house in Thigalarapalya when her husband, Lokesh, a casual labourer, was not at home.

The police said that Lokesh discovered his wife and daughter lying unconscious when he returned home and shifted them to a nearby hospital. The doctors said that the child was brought dead, while Chandrika is presently under treatment.

The police have registered a case of murder and launched an investigation.

Woman critically injured as pistol misfires

In another incident, a 32-year-old woman sustained bullet injuries after a licensed pistol accidentally misfired while she was at her businessman friend’s house in East Bengaluru on Monday.

According to the police, Rachel, a Cox Town resident, has been hospitalised in a critical condition following the incident at Ashirwad Colony, Horamavu. The license of the pistol was in the name of her friend’s father, Narayanswamy.

The police said that Rachel was testing the revolver while her friend Nikhil Narayanswamy, who runs a family printing business, was in the washroom. The pistol misfired, striking Rachel in the stomach, and Nikhil immediately rushed her to the hospital, the police said.
