Bengaluru to get 302 electric buses; Cabinet clears tender to complete Ejipura flyover

In a push to improve public transport in the state, Karnataka Cabinet Thursday approved procuring 1,020 new buses to different state-run transport corporations. Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will procure 320 electric buses at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister H K Patil said the 320 buses for BMTC will be procured under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) financing model in the coming days. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will buy 250 buses at a cost of Rs 100 crore, North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) will get 350 buses at Rs 150 crore and the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation will procure 250 buses at a cost of Rs 100 crore.
The Cabinet also granted administrative approval to complete the elevated corridor that is under construction along Koramangala Inner Ring Road. Only 40 per cent of the project – approved in 2013 and taken up in 2017 – is complete.

The project was first awarded to Simplex Infrastructure in 2017, with a condition to complete the 2.5 km long project from Kendriya Sadan to Ejipura in four years. The company could complete only 40 per cent of the project before going bankrupt. Authorities were able to finalise a contractor only after three tenders were floated to finish works of the elevated corridor. Hyderabad-based BSCPL has won the recent tender.
The decision to declare drought-hit taluks in the state was deferred to the next Cabinet meeting.
