Bengaluru temperature drops as heavy rainfall hits north of city

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had to arrange two tractors for the movement of residents of Kendriya Vihar Apartment Complex, while works were taken up to drain the water from the complex. Similarly, pumps were deployed at Ramanashree California Layout to drain out water.

The BBMP received 142 complaints of water entering houses, the majority being in the Yelahanka division, of which 102 cases were resolved as of Tuesday evening. The civic body also cleared 26 trees that fell during the day.

Meanwhile, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath convened a meeting with officials of various zones to take stock of the situation. He visited the apartments affected in the Yelahanka zone.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperatures came down by more than four degree Celsius in some isolated pockets of south interior Karnataka region, including Bengaluru. In a few places of the region, the IMD registered a marked fall in maximum temperatures two to four degrees below normal.

According to IMD data, the all-time record for highest rainfall in a single day was 178.9 mm, recorded on October 1, 1997. In recent years, the highest single-day rainfall was 76.6 mm recorded on October 6, 2017.
