In a suspected case of moral policing, a 21-year-old college student died after being attacked by a few locals while he was staying with his friends at a farmhouse on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The deceased has been identified as Puneeth, a BCom student of Vidyavardhaka College in Bengaluru’s Basaveshwara Nagar. The accused are Chandru, Nagesh, and Murali, all residents of Honnapura in Ramanagara district.
The incident took place on October 26 when Puneeth and his seven classmates including two girls went for an excursion to ASP Layout Farmhouse in Chikkenahalli village.
According to a police officer, Puneeth and his male friends were preparing dinner while their women friends were at the swimming pool. The three accused noticed the group, barged inside the farmhouse, and started video graphing the women. The accused then asked who had given the group permission to stay at the farmhouse and attacked Puneeth and his friend Likith with wooden logs. Puneeth sustained severe injuries on his head.
After being informed of the attack, the police shifted Puneeth to the Ramanagara district government hospital, and from there he was referred to a hospital in Kengeri. On October 31, Puneeth succumbed to his injuries.
The Ramanagara rural police have registered a case of murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested the accused.
