QR codes on Bengaluru roads soon to provide information on works
The announcement comes in the wake of repeated complaints over the poor quality of roads constructed in the city.

To ensure transparency in road works carried out in Bengaluru, Karnataka Deputy CM D K Shivakumar said that the government would install QR codes on all roads which would provide details of the works carried out along a particular stretch.
“The QR codes will provide all information on works carried out. By providing this information we will ensure transparency to the public,” he said. The announcement comes in the wake of repeated complaints over the poor quality of roads constructed in the city.
The government was also mulling to introduce an automated system to sanction building plans, the minister said at the ‘Brand Bengaluru’ convention held in the city Monday.
Commenting on the self-assessment of property tax, he said the scheme was introduced trusting that people would declare all properties accurately. “But we are generating only Rs 3,000 crore property tax. This is not enough for anything. Resources are being leaked under the scheme. The government is ready to address this issue,” he said, adding that the BBMP would ensure efficient collection of property tax in the coming days.
All governments have failed in solid waste management of Bengaluru over the past years, he said, noting that none of the eight plants constructed to convert waste to fuel was functional.
“We are just filling waste. We have to find a permanent solution,” Shivakumar said, adding that the government was studying the models adopted in Hyderabad, Delhi, and Chennai.
On potholes in the city, he said the BBMP and the traffic police will work in tandem to address the issue. “We will provide an opportunity for people to inform the BBMP commissioner about potholes,” he said.
