Bengaluru PG murder: Police file charges, say woman killed for sheltering colleague from ex-boyfriend

That night, Ghosi’s estranged girlfriend was staying at a different place that Kumari had arranged for her.

Speaking about the motive behind the murder, a police officer said, “He believed that Kriti was responsible for his estranged girlfriend ending their relationship. Ghosi’s estranged girlfriend was Kriti’s roommate and the two had been in a relationship since childhood. When Ghosi’s girlfriend moved to Bengaluru from Bhopal for a job, Ghosi struggled with loneliness and eventually relocated to Bengaluru as well. He rented a flat in Ejipura, just 800 m away from his girlfriend’s PG accommodation.”

In June, Ghosi became frustrated by his inability to find a job and began engaging in frequent arguments with his girlfriend. These fights escalated into abuse and harassment. In July, Kumari helped her move to a location unknown to Ghosi. Angered by this, Ghosi made several unsuccessful attempts to find out his girlfriend’s new location from Kumari.

When these efforts failed, on the morning of July 23, Ghosi decided to murder Kumari, according to the police. He vacated his flat and moved into a PG facility near Kumari’s. In the evening, he purchased a knife for Rs 65 and tried to enter Kumari’s place around 8 pm but was turned away by the security guard. Ghosi then waited for an opportunity and, at 11.15 pm, entered the building when the guard went upstairs, and allegedly killed Kumari.

After the murder, Ghosi returned to his PG facility, changed clothes and took an autorickshaw to the Yeshwantpur railway station. Along the way, he allegedly disposed of the knife. On reaching the station, he changed his mind and headed to Majestic, but again sensed danger and travelled to Baiyappanahalli, where he boarded a train to Betul in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the police had tracked Ghosi’s estranged girlfriend’s location and gathered key information about him. On July 26, Ghosi was arrested as soon as he arrived at Begamganj in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district by bus from Betul, roughly 290 km away.

The 1,205-page chargesheet, which was filed on Saturday, includes 85 witness statements. Thirteen of the witnesses have given their statements before a magistrate under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
