The new trains will help Bengaluru residents in battling traffic woes.
In a bid to improve connectivity within Bengaluru and to its nearby towns, the South Western Railway (SWR) has introduced new trains.
While a new service on the KSR Bengaluru-Whitefield route had been flagged off Saturday, another new train on the KSR Bengaluru City (SBC)-Bangarapet Junction (BWT) route began operating Monday.
Train no 06545/06546 SBC-BWT-SBC Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) will run six days a week, except on Sundays. According to SWR officials, the train will depart from SBC at 5 am to reach BWT at 6.03 am. On its return journey, the MEMU will leave Bangarapet Junction at 10.15 pm to reach KSR Bengaluru at 11.45 pm.
“En-route, the train will have stoppages at Bengaluru Cantonment, Baiyyappanahallli, Krishnarajapuram, Hudi Halt, Whitefield, Devangonthi, Malur and Tyakal in both directions,” an SWR spokesperson told Indianexpress.com.
SWR officials said the train will have eight coaches — two Motor Cars and six Trailing Cars. “While each motor car will be able to accommodate 226 passengers (55 seated and 121 standing), each trailing car will hold up to 325 passengers (84 seated and 241 standing),” the official added.
The Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (DEMU) train running between KSR Bengaluru – Whitefield – Bengaluru Cantonment, flagged off on Saturday, is expected to come to the rescue of techies and professionals beleaguered by traffic woes.
Train No.06559 KSR Bengaluru – Whitefield – Bengaluru Cantonment departs from SBC at 5.50 pm to reach Whitefield at 6.40 pm. On its return journey, it leaves Whitefield at 6.50 pm to arrive at Bengaluru Cantonment at 7.25 pm.
The train stops at Bengaluru East, Baiyyappanahalli, Krishnarajapuram and Hudi Halt in both directions, according to SWR officials. The train has two motor cars and six trailing cars, together accommodating 2,502 passengers.
“Additional trains on these routes will help thousands like us reach home earlier every day, and save us from the daily traffic problems we suffer,” Ravi Sitharaman, a marketing professional, said.
The SWR official said the train would help curb the problem of passengers encroaching into reserved coaches of long-distance trains.
“Trains on this route are very crowded every day. We have been getting a lot of complaints that many people who travel in the evening trains encroach into reserved compartments of long-distance trains, causing safety and comfort issues to other passengers. These trains will minimise such problems,” the official said.
On Sunday, 14 passengers with unreserved tickets were booked for travelling in reserved coaches by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
In view of Passenger security a raid was conducted on 10.11.19 in Tr no 16316/16315 kochuveli exp and 14 cases were booked on unreserved Passengers travelling in reserved coaches.
