The gang, which was following them, attacked him with machetes when his friend stopped the two-wheeler because of a traffic jam. The gang then dropped the weapons and fled.

The police formed multiple teams to arrest the accused.

‘Avenged a murder’

A police officer said the accused had planned to escape to Mumbai. “They were headed in a truck to Bidadi, and from there they were planning to head to Mumbai after getting some financial assistance from friends,” the officer said.

The police suspect that the gang killed Suhail to avenge a murder that took place earlier this year. “On 12 January, Shabbir, a rowdy sheeter from Koramangala police station, was in an auto-rickshaw when a gang attacked him near Mangammanapalya main road. The police had arrested eight people then,” the officer said.

While Suhail was not part of the crime, his brothers Syed Kaleem and Nazeer were allegedly involved in the murder and were arrested too. “Adil was a friend of Shabbir and we suspect that the killing of Suhail took place to avenge the death of Shabbir. We have taken the accused into police custody and are questioning them along those lines,” a police officer said.

The police said that both murders were linked to gang rivalry who were involved in a gang rivalry over control of the Bandepalya area.

They have booked the six men on charges of murder and are further investigating the case.
