Bengaluru: Man arrested for posing as CBI officer to extort money, two Mercedes-Benz cars seized

The police says that after this incident he was also planning to extort money posing as a CBI officer from some more people.

The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a person Friday for allegedly threatening and extorting money from various people posing as a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer.

The accused has been identified as Abhilash (34) and the CCB police have seized Rs 24 lakhs from him. Speaking to Indianexpress.com, Sandeep Patil, the Joint Commissioner of Police (crime), said, “The accused has extorted Rs 24 lakhs recently from a person saying he is a CBI officer, and threaten that he will book false cases.”

The police said that after this incident he was also planning to extort money posing as a CBI officer from some more people. The cops have also seized two Mercedes Benz cars from the accused.

According to Abhilash’s social media profile, he has mentioned that he is a businessman and an engineer. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of IPC and police are investigating the matter.
