Bengaluru reports nearly 150 firecrackers-related injuries during Deepavali celebrations, majority of victims children

Narayana Nethralaya said they treated 76 eye injuries related to firecrackers in the Diwali festive season. Among the cases, 14 involved children under 10 and 21 in the 10-18 age range.
Four patients needed surgical intervention for injuries ranging from corneal abrasions to more serious corneal tears, epithelial defects, and lens dislocation.
A particularly severe case involved a 12-year-old girl from Mahalakshmi Layout in Bengaluru who suffered a complete hyphema in her left eye after a bullet bomb exploded as she was lighting it. The patient has since undergone surgery and is under observation.
