A man has been arrested for allegedly flashing a postgraduate journalism student in Pattandur Agrahara lake in Whitefield, where she had gone for a college assignment Monday.
The student made a video of the man flashing her, which helped the police nab the accused immediately, officers said.
According to the police, the student, working on an assignment to research the status of lakes in Pattandur Agrahara, had gone to the area on Monday afternoon. “A man started following her, flashed her, and made vulgar signs at her. She recorded a video and came directly to the police station and gave a complaint,” said an officer from Whitefield police station.
The Whitefield police arrested the man, booked him under IPC Section 354 and later produced him in court. “The video taken by the girl helped us identify the accused and arrest him,” added the officer.
Namma Whitefield, a federation of residents and RWAs in Whitefield area, wrote on Twitter, “The areas around Pattandur Agrahara Lake 142 are filled with illegal tenements erected in the Lake Buffer Zone area. Muggings are reported regularly from around here. If these tenements are illegal, please evict them. Improve surveillance and patrolling to make the area safe for women!”
