Passengers travelling to and from the Bengaluru airport using the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) ‘Vayu Vajra’ buses will soon be able to reserve their tickets online. Passengers using online travel portals to book flights, hotels and cabs can book the Vayu Vajra bus plying between the city and the airport.
The corporation had introduced AC Volvo buses in 2006 under two brand names – Vajra and Vayu Vajra – the latter operating as exclusive services to Bengaluru International Airport. At present, 88 air-conditioned buses make 304 trips from the city to the airport (up route) and 308 run in the reverse direction, which is a financially profitable route for the BMTC.
A senior BMTC official told indianexpress.com, “Along with upgrading the BMTC mobile application, we are planning to tie up with the travel websites to book the BMTC Vayu Vajra bus tickets. The airport-bound passengers usually travel more than one hour on the bus, hence they can reserve a seat on the bus to avoid standing during the trip.”
“We are discussing the proposal with the various online travel agencies, and the service might be ready to launch by this year-end. Since airport buses are running successfully we have increased the frequency of buses on the airport route. The Passengers can book any number of seats, the booking option is set to be limited only to the BMTC airport route,” he added.
The BMTC Vayu Vajra buses are connecting the airport to the city with very high frequency. Vayu Vajra is a 24/7 service available for both arrival and departure passengers.
According to BMTC, the Vayu Vajra buses are making a profit of Rs 3 to Rs 5 per kilometer.
