The BBMP then informed Signpost, asking its officials to appear before the civic agency with a work order and suggested they maintain safety standards.
The brand new Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus shelter on Cunningham Road that had ‘gone missing’ was, in fact, removed by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials, citing safety concerns, the police said. Accordingly, the Bengaluru police have closed the theft case lodged in the matter.
On September 30, N Ravi Reddy, the associate vice-president of Signpost India Pvt Ltd, a company responsible for constructing BMTC bus shelters, had filed a police complaint saying that the steel bus shelter constructed on August 21 had ‘gone missing’ during an inspection on August 28. The bus shelter was located behind the Bengaluru city police commissioner’s office.
“We had summoned the BBMP executive engineer of Shivajinagar zone for questioning. The officer said that on August 22, the officials who were conducting an inspection found that the shelter was not erected properly and was posing a threat to the public,” a police official from High Grounds police station said.
The BBMP then informed Signpost, asking its officials to appear before the civic agency with a work order and suggested they maintain safety standards. But when the representatives failed to submit the documents, keeping public safety in mind, on August 25, the shelter was removed and the materials were kept in a godown, a BBMP official said.
In his complaint, Reddy, however, had mentioned that he had checked with the BBMP and he was told that they were unaware of the bus shelter.
An official from High Grounds police station said that they found that it was BBMP officials who had removed the bus shelter after going through the CCTV footage from the area but sought confirmation. “Now, this is a closed case and BBMP and the agency will have to take it forward,” the official added.
