Bangalore: Bride’s jewels worth a crore go missing minutes before wedding

The bride's family had arranged for a locker to store her jewels and other valuables after the reception.

A large quantity of gold and silver worth over Rs one crore belonging to a new bride were looted by unidentified persons from a wedding hall in JP Nagar in South Bangalore, where her marriage was being conducted, on Thursday. The robbery occurred at the Elaan Convention Center a few hours before the marriage was to be solemnized.

A complaint about the missing gold and silver articles was filed by the mother of the bride, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Division) B S Lokesh Kumar said.

The bride who belongs to a wealthy businessman’s family from Andhra Pradesh was scheduled to get married at 3 am on Thursday and a reception had been held on Wednesday evening. The bride’s family had arranged for a locker to store her jewels and other valuables after the reception. They had also brought along two keys for the locker while a third had gone missing.

The family who had stored the jewels in the locker soon after the reception found the jewels and other valuables worth nearly Rs one crore missing when the bride was preparing for her marriage in the wee hours of Thursday. Police suspect someone known to the bride’s family to be behind the robbery.
