High drama unfolded in the early hours of Monday in Bengaluru after the city police’s Quick Response Teams (QRTs) surrounded a three-storeyed building housing the Geometry Brewery and Kitchen located near Malleshwaram 17th cross.
According to a police source, a pub security guard alerted the police helpline (112) about an armed intruder around 4.03 am. Fearing for his life, the guard locked the building and called for police assistance.
Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Division, led the operation. Each floor and room of the building was thoroughly searched, but no intruder was found, leading officials to believe that the suspect had fled before the police arrived.
Vikash Kumar Vikash, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), revealed that the guard told them that the intruder was wearing black clothing, gloves, and a mask, and was holding a pistol. Initial CCTV footage supported some movement on the third floor, but later recordings were missing, likely due to tampering.
A police officer said the intruder had broken in through the back door, accessed the brewery’s office on the third floor, disabled several CCTV cameras, and stole around Rs 50,000 from the cashbox.
“The fact that the intruder went straight to the third floor, where cash is stored, suggests insider knowledge,” said a senior officer, adding that “while the guard says he has seen a weapon, we are still verifying if it was an actual firearm.”
The Subramanya Nagar police station has registered a case and begun analysing CCTV footage from the area to trace the suspect’s movements and identify him.
