AISATS sets up Rs 200-crore logistics park at Bengaluru airport, eyes long-term stability amid US-China trade war uncertainties
Spanning 8 acres, AISATS BLR Logistics Park features a two-level main warehouse with over 2,40,000 sq ft of space, a public bonded warehouse, and office space for logistics services.
Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS), an airport services management company, launched AISATS BLR Logistics Park at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru Tuesday. With an investment of Rs 200 crore, it is one of the largest on-airport logistics parks in South India.
The facility was inaugurated amidst a global trade war and uncertainty set off after US President Donald Trump’s tariff push. Addressing concerns on how trade uncertainties and container shortages in China could affect India’s cargo business and logistics operations, Bob Chi, CEO, APAC Gateway Services of SATS, said, “Yes, the trade war has indeed kept us uncertain. We are monitoring the situation closely. AISATS looks into the future, looks into the long term. Each infrastructure project, like a logistics park, is not for the next 5 years; it is for the next 15 years and beyond. Our primary focus is delivering enduring value to our airline and cargo partners, fostering their growth opportunities, be it short term or long term.”
The launch of AISATS BLR Logistics Park aims to enhance cargo handling capabilities, improve operational efficiencies, and cater to the rising demand for faster, seamless, and more sustainable cargo supply chains. Strategically located within the airport premises, the facility will play a key role in supporting exporters, importers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers, ensuring efficient cargo movement and consolidation services.
The company looks to cash in on Bengaluru airport’s potential aviation infrastructure that accounts for 40 per cent of South India’s total air cargo volumes, achieving its highest-ever annual cargo tonnage of 502,480 metric tonnes in FY’25 and aims to handle 1 million metric tonnes of cargo by 2030.
Spread across 8 acres within BLR Airport, the Logistics Park is a cluster of three distinct buildings to serve the cargo community. A modern two-level main warehouse offering more than 2,40,000 sq ft of Grade A warehousing space, designed to serve the freight forwarders, express courier operators and leading logistics players. The warehouse also includes a common-user general warehouse space to cater for small and medium enterprises and cold storage warehouse space for pay-per-use access, strengthening inclusivity and competitiveness in the logistics ecosystem.
To complement this, an 11,000 sq ft public bonded warehouse allows importers and OEMs to securely store and manage their cargo shipments under Customs bond. The Logistics Park also offers an office block with 24,000 sq ft of space for Customs House Agents, logistics companies and support services.
AISATS will also provide trucking services to ensure faster, economical and seamless cargo movement between the logistics park and cargo terminals at the Bengaluru airport.
