A 13-year-old boy accidentally killed his three-year-old cousin while playing with a loaded gun at a poultry farm in Karnataka’s Mandya district Sunday.
According to the police in Nagamangala, the deceased was the son of migrant labourers from West Bengal employed at a poultry farm owned by Congress leader Narasimhamurthy. The 13-year-old was visiting the family with his parents, who work on a neighbouring farm.
An officer said the children were playing thief-police when the elder cousin found a loaded gun kept on a shelf for security purposes. He accidentally fired the weapon, striking his younger brother in the abdomen. The bullet caused severe injuries to the younger boy, also wounding his mother.
The officer said the child was rushed to Nagamangala Taluk Government Hospital where he died because of excessive blood loss.
Authorities are now probing why the loaded firearm was kept on the shelf, raising concerns over safety regulations at the poultry farm. The preliminary probe also revealed that the licence of the gun, kept for the safety of the farm, was in the name of Narasimhamurthy.
