Four people have been arrested for allegedly thrashing to death a 20-year-old nursing student reportedly due to his intercaste relationship with a 16-year-old Scheduled Caste girl in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district.

According to the police, the girl’s relatives allegedly invited the young man, belonging to upper caste, to their residence and assaulted him using clubs and iron rods on Monday night.

The victim, identified as Abhishek, a resident of Kalaburagi, died of severe head injuries and blood loss, the investigators said.

A police officer said, “Abhishek, belonging to the Maratha Kshatriya community, had been in a relationship with the girl, a member of the Lambani community for about three years. Despite opposition from the girl’s family, the couple maintained their relationship through mobile phones.”

Therefore, the girl’s relatives lured Abhishek to come to their residence on Monday, where he was fatally assaulted by her uncle and other family members.
