Zadaphia raises concern over scaling down of his security

Former minister and Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) general secretary Gordhan Zadaphia has expressed concern over scaling down of his security.

Former minister and Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) general secretary Gordhan Zadaphia has expressed concern over scaling down of his security. His security has been downgraded from 10 to only three security personnel, one at his residence and two when he is travelling. His security pilot vehicle was also withdrawn two days ago.

Speaking to The Indian Express,Zadaphia said that his security was downgraded in August this year as well. But it was restored after he wrote a letter to the state government. Zadaphia had Z category security owing to threat perception following the 2002 communal riots when he was Minister of State for Home. However,he subsequently quit Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet, owing to his alleged differences over CM’s style of functioning. Later,he quit BJP and floated his own party — Mahagujarat Janata Party (MJP). MJP was rechristened as Gujarat Parivartan Party(GPP) after former CM Keshubhai Patel joined the new party and became its president on the eve of December 2012 Assembly elections. But Zadaphia’s security was downgraded again two days ago.

Though Zadaphia has not written to the government again for restoring his Z category security,he has sent a letter to Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Shivanand Jha,informing him about surrendering the pilot vehicle that was allotted for his security. Jha also happens to be the Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad.

But Zadaphia wants a receipt of the letter. In the letter,he has stated that “those involved in scaling down my security will be responsible if any untoward incident happens to me after the reduction of my security.” “But,no one,not even Jha,is willing to issue me a receipt of this letter,” says the former minister.
