A city resident made a representation to the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner to file an FIR for police atrocity against Sub-Inspector N K Rabari of Kalupur police station among others. He was allegedly slapped, abused and thrashed by traffic policemen for driving on the wrong side of the road while passing from Khadia area.

In his letter (a copy of which is with the paper), Shivanand Jha, the complainant identified as Nahid Akram Memon stated that on October 19, he drove into a wrong lane which the traffic police had declared as ‘No Entry’ lane. The policemen caught and penalised him and despite  paying the penalty he was taken to Tambu police station.

One of the policemen present there, identified as N K Rabari of Kalupur police station, first abused and slapped him. His younger brother, Zabair, who was also with Memon switched on the phone to record the incident after which Rabari slapped his younger brother. The duo were later let off when their family members pleaded for bail. The recording was sent to Ahmedabad CP. The victim added that next day on October 20th, Rabari called them to Tambu Chowky again where Zabair’s driving license and all other documents were seized.

Nahid said in the letter, “When we sought the license and documents back, Rabari threatened us saying that we shouldn’t even pass through this area or else he will ‘fit’ us into a serious case where we spend our entire life in jail”.

Nahid has pleaded the Ahmedabad CP to file a FIR against NK Rabari and constable Dilip Singh for atrocity in his letter. The letter was also sent to Kalupur police station and Khadia police station where the policemen belong to. Kalupur Inspector Upadhyay said, “We haven’t yet received a copy of the complaint. If it has reached CP’s office and has been forwarded to us, we will take necessary action against our policemen.”
