Economist and academician Yoginder K Alagh has been appointed the first Chancellor of Central University of Gujarat,which was set up in March 2009. The appointment has been done by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Alagh is presently the Chancellor of Nagaland University and chairman of the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). The former union minister also holds the post of vice-chairman at the Sardar Patel Institute of Economics & Social Research.
He used to teach Economics at University of Rajasthan,Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and University of Pennsylvania,among others. He was the 7th vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University,New Delhi.
