Woman jumps into Sabarmati with two kids,survives

A 30-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati river along with her two children here on Wednesday.

A 30-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati river along with her two children here on Wednesday. The woman was rescued by fire brigade personnel while both the children died,police said.

The bodies were fished out after a six-hour long operation,police said,adding that Manjula Rathod jumped off the Sardar Bridge.

They said one of the children was two-year-old while the other was three-and-a-half-year old.

Manjula reportedly told police that she was attempted suicide as she was “tired of her life”. She was scared that her husband,who is a labourer,would ill treat the children after her death,so she decided to thrown them in the river.

Further investigations were on and police may charge the woman with murder.
