A woman allegedly kidnapped a baby girl from PDU General Hospital from the city on Sunday morning. The toddler was however rescued by police in the afternoon and the alleged kidnapper was caught from Virpur village.
Police said that Prakash Goswami, a resident of Gondal town in Rajkot district was undergoing treatment at the PDU Hospital. To look after him, his wife Usha was also camping in the government hospital with his children, including their six-month-old daughter Divya.
“Accused Radhikha Dabhi alias Taki befriended Usha Goswami as she was also hanging around overnight. Usha thought that Radhika was also accompanying somebody to the hospital. In the morning, Radhika offered to take care of Divya while Usha arranged breakfast for her other two children. Trusting her, Usha left Divya in custody of Radhika outside the burns ward and went inside the hospital building. But when she came out, Radhika had already run away with the girl child,” said assistant commissioner of police (west zone) Harshad Mehta.

Police sad the alleged kidnapping took place at around 7:30 am.
City police commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot formed five teams to track down the alleged kidnapper and rescued the child. Based on a tip off, a police team nabbed Rahikha from near Jalaram temple in Virpur.
“Radhika is presently residing near Greenland Chowkadi in Rajkot. But came to know she had lived in Virpur also for some time. Based on this information, a team was sent there and the accused was caught at around 2:30 pm,” the ACP further said.
Based on the complaint filed by Usha Goswami, Malaviya Nagar police have booked Radhika Kanabhai for kidnapping. But police said the kidnapper, who is around 21-year-old in age, claims she was just playing with the child.
“During primary interrogation, she stuck to the line that she was just taking the child out for playing and that she had not abducted it. However, we are trying to find out the actual motive of crime,” added ACP Mehta.
