The Vadodara police commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the incident of two constables of a local police station, who were caught on camera throwing money at a dancer while attending the wedding after-party of their colleague’s daughter on May 10. The video was released on Friday on social media networks, embarrassing the police.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 10, at a party held by constable Kanhaiyalal Parmar, whose daughter tied the knot on May 9. The party, held at a private plot on Ajwa Road in the city, included a live musical performance by a local orchestra group, where two of Parmar’s constable colleagues showered money and danced with a gyrating dancer of the troupe on stage. In the video, the two constables under question are seen, dressed in khaki, on stage. One of the two constables holds hands and shakes a leg with the dancer, to a famous Bollywood song. The other is seen circling a bunch of notes over the dancer’s head, throwing them at her. The video led to a departmental inquiry against the two constables from the Kisanwadi police
Commissioner of Police E Radhakrishnan said the department, taking serious note of the video, has decided to probe the matter. Radhakrishanan said, “The inquiry in this matter has been handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), who will look into the video and determine the case.” A senior officer said that the two constables would need to explain their conduct while in uniform. “Since it was a wedding of the daughter of their close colleague, it is natural for them to be excited and happy. But they will need to tell higher officers why they were dressed in uniforms while the incident occurred.”

Officials of the Kisanwadi police station said the two constables may have unintentionally overstepped the line at the party. An officer said, “Although the entire police station was invited to the wedding, many of us could not make it to the party as we were on the night shift. So far, we have not received any intimation for their suspension from the higher officials, but an inquiry is on,” an officer of the Kisanwadi police station said.
