The Delegates of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) or Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit (VGGIS), who will be on a day’s visit, will not likely get stay back facility in Ahmedabad as well as Gandhinagar.

Owing to closure of advance booking in hotel rooms during these two events, those planning to attend the programmes only for a day will be offered only 45 minutes of freshen up facility and not accommodation, said a government official.

For the two high-profile events — PBD (January 7-9) and the VGGIS (January 11- 13) some 3,000 to 4,000 delegates are expected on each day, apart from another 3,000 who would stay for multiple days. The total number of hotel rooms, including all categories, come to around 2,500 in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar collectively.

In addition to that, the Gujarat Government has hired 100 fully furnished apartments in posh schemes of realtors on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway.

Earlier, the government was contemplating to put up a tent city, especially to accommodate the guests.

The idea was dropped due to security reasons. With the rush of delegates, the security concern is huge: Both the events will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and VGGIS will be attended by US Secretary of State John Kerry and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, along with state heads from other countries.

“The total number of guests on any day is expected to be around 6,000. They include 3,000 on day trip. An number of guests will be here for multiple days,” said Manish Sharma of Akshar Travels, which has been given the official contract by the Gujarat Government to look after accommodation arrangement.

“At the time of registration for accommodation, the guests have been asked to furnish their itinerary. Those who are attending only one-day event or events are being directed for freshen up facilities to handle flow of delegates in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar during this period,” said an official from the industry department, which is organising the VGGIS.

“We are not allowed to do direct bookings for PBD and VGGIS. The government has given clear instructions to ask the guests to come through official travel agency Akshar,”, said a hotelier from Ahmedabad.

To take care of the daily flow of guests, Finance and Tourism Minister Saurabh Patel, along with Additional Chief Secretary (Industries & Mines) Atanu Chakraborty, finalised Narayani Heights, a hotel located on airport- Mahatma Mandir route. It will provide freshen up facilities.

“The service will be strictly available only for 45 minutes, from 7 am to 7 pm. In the morning, breakfast will also be available. The guests will have to produce the invitation at the reception to avail of this service,” said the official from industry department.

As per instructions from the state government, seven rooms have been kept reserved to make this facility available and a temporary coffee shop has also been made.
